Shoutout to the guy at the Tulsa ramp who showed me a borescope trick I should've known 8 years ago
Last month I was doing a hot section inspection on a PT6 and kept getting a glare off the blade roots no matter how I angled the light. The older A&P next to me just slid a piece of black heat shrink over the light wand so only the tip glows, and suddenly every crack popped. I've been fighting that reflection with a $600 inspection light for years and never once thought to shade it. It costs about 10 cents and takes 30 seconds to install. Has anyone else picked up a dumb simple trick like this from someone on the ramp that you wish you'd learned in A&P school?

That heat shrink trick is the same thing as putting tape over your phone flashlight when you lose something in the car, the bright light is actually the problem, not the fix. Half the wins in this life come from dumb little changes like that, the kind nobody teaches because they seem too small to matter. The old guys on the ramp know them all and they just hand em out like candy if you stand there long enough.
