TIL you can't just swap a #1 and #3 cylinder position on a Lycoming, and it cost me 6 hours
Pulled a cylinder on a Lycoming O-320 in a Cherokee 140 for a compression issue, and I had a rebuilt spare sitting on the shelf. I figured cylinder is a cylinder, so I bolted the spare onto the #3 hole instead of waiting two days for the right one from Air Power in Tulsa. Engine ran rough on the first start, and my IA buddy pointed out the baffling and intake runner angle are set up per position, so nothing lined up right. Had to pull it back off, eat the gasket kit, and wait anyway. Anyone got a trick for keeping spare cylinders labeled so this doesn't happen again?
