Appreciation post: My 8-year-old nephew asked if the keypad beeps were the alarm's secret language
He said 'it sounds like it's trying to talk to you, like a robot friend', and now I can't help but hear a little personality in those tones during my installs in Boise last week, anyone else ever get a weirdly charming take from a kid on the job?

Kids see the magic we tune out. That beep is just a diagnostic tool to us, but to him it's a character with something to say. Makes you wonder what else we're missing.

Ever try asking what the beep is saying? My nephew told me it was a tiny robot counting his heartbeats. Now I hear it differently too.

That's a sweet story but honestly, the beep is just a beep. It's a machine doing its job, nothing magical about it. Maybe we hear things differently when we want them to be more than what they really are.
