Warning: a rewatch of Cowboy Bebop at my local theater in Austin killed my hot take on episodic anime
Everybody online says episodic shows are outdated and only plot heavy stuff matters now. I saw the first 5 episodes on the big screen at a theater on South Lamar last month, and the standalone stories hit way harder when you sit with them. The pacing in episode 2, where Spike chases a bounty that has nothing to do with the main arc, got laughs and gasps from a full room. So why do we keep calling monster of the week formats filler when they clearly still work live? What show changed your mind after seeing it in a theater instead of at home?
