Appreciation post: the old timer at the feed store in Macon who told me to stop pruning my oaks in spring
Was picking up dog food last Tuesday and the guy behind the counter saw my saw chips and asked what I was cutting. I said live oak and he just shook his head and told me to wait till dormancy or I'd be inviting beetles straight into the wounds. I looked it up when I got home and sure enough, oak wilt spread is way worse with spring cuts, and I had already trimmed three trees on a job in April. Honestly felt sick about it but called the client and we set up a fall visit instead. Anybody else have a random stranger hand them a rule they should have known years ago?
