Hit 10,000 artifact photos in my catalog and it feels like a trap

I've been digitizing my local dig's finds for 3 years now, mostly pottery sherds and bone fragments. Last week I crossed 10,000 photos in my file system and realized I still have 2 storage units full of boxes to go. That number surprised me because I thought I was maybe halfway through, not barely started. It matters because we're applying for a grant next month and the catalog is our main proof of work. How do other people handle backlog when the milestone just makes the rest feel impossible? Has anyone else stared at a huge count and figured out a faster system?
