My embarrassing artifact mix-up at the community dig

I was helping out at a local dig, all proud of myself. Spent ages cleaning this thing I thought was an ancient coin. Turns out it was just a soda can pull tab from the 1990s. The team got a real kick out of my 'discovery'. Kinda humbling but we laughed it off.

How many times have I done that, thinking some rusty junk was a real treasure?

Yeah it happens way too often honestly. @robinmason I've learned the hard way to check for any maker's marks or stamps before getting too excited. A quick google with your phone right there in the thrift store can save so much regret. Bringing a small magnet helps too to check if something's at least solid metal and not plated junk. We all have a box of "treasures" that turned out to be just rust.

No way! A pull tab passing for an ancient coin? @robinmason, I feel your pain with misjudging rusty stuff. The patina on those tabs can really trick the eye. Honestly, I'd probably make the same mistake.
