That museum curator's tip about pottery shards actually paid off
Last month at the Field Museum in Chicago, a curator told me to lick a sherd to test for temper instead of just eyeballing it. I thought she was messing with me, but it worked way better than my hand lens for spotting ancient grit. Has anyone else tried that trick on digs, or am I just weird now?
