I finally stopped fighting the wind and started shooting at 5am in Phoenix
I used to book shoots at 2pm in the summer like an idiot, and my audio was trash because every mic was picking up that low desert hum and planes from Sky Harbor. A gaffer I worked with on a job near Roosevelt Row back in 2019 said he only rolls camera before 7am from May to September, and I thought he was just being dramatic. Tried it on a client shoot three weeks ago, call time was 5:15am, and we knocked out six setups before the heat even showed up. The light was soft, no wind, and I didn't have to fix a single audio track in post, which saved me about four hours of cleanup. It's a pain dragging myself out of bed that early, but I'm never going back to midday shoots in July. Anyone else here schedule around the heat, or am I the last one to figure this out?
