Rant: my old camera made Tucson sunsets look orange, the new one gets them right
Shot the same west-facing spot at 6:45pm two weeks apart, no filter, and the sky finally looks like what I see with my own eyes. Anyone else shooting desert sunsets, what are you setting your white balance to?
Man, this hits home. I swear half of what people call "editing style" is really just the camera sensor lying about color and us getting used to the lie. Tucson is a weird one too because the dust in the air actually shifts the hue depending on the day, so a fixed white balance can look dead on one night and way off the next. Something nobody talks about: your phone screen and monitor are probably set way cooler than reality, so even a "correct" shot can look wrong when you view it later. What helped me was shooting a gray card at the same spot around 6:45 and just matching that, then letting the sky do whatever it wants.
