Warning: An old-timer in Cincinnati told me my weld-through primer was useless if I didn't scuff the factory e-coat first.
He said 'you're just painting over glass, kid,' so now I always hit it with a red scuff pad for 30 seconds before I spray a single drop, and my adhesion problems are gone.

It's amazing how often the real trick is just the simple prep work everyone skips. That old guy saved you a ton of future headaches.
