Threw $400 at a Matco scan tool and it barely reads half the modules on a 2012 F-150

I picked up a Matco Maximus scanner at the dealer last month thinking it'd be a game changer. The guy swore it could do bi-directional tests on everything. Got it home and tried to program a TPMS sensor on a Ford and it just errored out. Ended up borrowing a buddy's Autel and it worked first try. Any of you guys find a decent all around scanner under a grand that actually works?

Man, my buddy had the same letdown with his new scanner last year. He bought this mid-range launch tool for his shop, swore it was the answer. First real job was a 2014 Silverado with a bad window module. His fancy tool could see the code but couldn't actuate the motor to test it. He had to dig his old Snap-on brick out of the cabinet to actually run the test. Felt like he just burned a grand for a fancy code reader.

Sometimes the old tools just get the job done better.
