Hot take: the $900 extended warranty on my Tacoma was money well spent, and I was the biggest skeptic around
Two years back I sat in the finance office at a dealer in Reno and turned down the extended warranty twice because every forum post I read called them a scam. My truck hit 61,000 miles in March and the AC compressor plus a sensor issue ran me $1,450 out of pocket. I ran the numbers on what the plan would have cost me over the same stretch and it came out ahead by a few hundred bucks. What sold me was reading the actual exclusion list line by line instead of trusting the loudest guy in the room. Not every plan is a ripoff, some are just priced like one. Has anyone here actually sat down and compared a quote against their real repair history, or is everyone just going off vibes?
How did you pull your actual repair history to compare against the quote? I've got receipts stuffed in a glovebox and no real system, but I'd honestly like to run those numbers myself.
