Pro tip: my torque wrench hit 1,200 cycles and I almost trusted it anyway
Sent my 15 year old torque wrench in for calibration at the shop in Wichita last month and the report came back at 6 percent low across the range. That does not sound like much until you think about a flight control bolt that calls for 40 inch pounds and you are actually giving it 37.6. Anything past 5,000 cycles or roughly 12 months of daily line work needs a check, no matter how solid it still feels in your hand. Anyone else got a cutoff number they stick to, or do you just go by the sticker date?

Six percent low is sneaky because the wrench still clicks and feels right, so nothing tips you off. Going by the sticker date alone is a trap too, since heavy daily use beats up the spring way faster than the calendar suggests. Better to log your cycles and pull it at the first sign of drift.
