Got stuck on a loop trail with no clear exit last weekend

The map said it was a simple out-and-back, but half the markers were missing. Ended up adding three extra miles in the dark.

Were you by yourself when you got lost? That must have been really hard and scary, especially with the dark closing in.

Remember that time I took a wrong turn on the hiking trail by Silver Lake? Thought I knew a shortcut back to the parking lot. Ended up in this weird rocky area as the sun went down. My phone had like 12% battery, pure panic mode. Took an hour of stumbling around before I saw a flashlight from the main path. Never trust a shortcut after 4 PM.

I followed a dry creek bed once thinking it would loop back to camp. Big mistake. The shadows got longer and every tree started looking the same. We were in a group, @robertlopez, and it somehow made the whole thing feel more stupid, not less scary. Found the site by pure luck after an hour of walking in what felt like circles.
