Wasted $60 on a bear canister for a route where trees hang everywhere
Bought a BearVault BV500 for a 3 night loop in the Adirondacks last month because I read one blog saying hangs are unreliable up there. Turns out the High Peaks have plenty of good hang trees and I hauled 2.5 extra pounds of plastic for 22 miles for nothing. The worst part is I could have rented one for $8 at the gear shop in Lake Placid. Has anyone actually gotten a ranger to check their canister on that route, or did I just fall for the blog?
