Water filter clogged on day 3, switched to a bandana trick I overheard
Was on the JMT near Red's Meadow and my Sawyer slowed to a drip. A guy at the campsite said to pre-filter through a folded bandana into my dirty bag, and it took 5 minutes instead of 30 after that. Anyone else do this or just carry a spare cartridge?
Oh man, seriously? Bandana pre-filtering feels like a solution looking for a problem. I mean, yeah, cloudy water is annoying, but unless you're dipping from a mud puddle, a Sawyer should handle it for way longer than 3 days. Maybe it's just me but I feel like most of the time people forget to backflush or they let the thing freeze overnight. That's usually the real killer, not some random leaves. Idk, I'd rather just carry a little scrub brush for the intake side than add another step to my water routine. But hey, if it worked for you, whatever, you do you.
