Hot take: the best advice I got about my garage workbench came from a 70 year old neighbor named Frank
Back in 2019 I was building a workbench in my garage in Akron and Frank from two doors down wandered over with a lemonade and just watched me for a bit. He pointed at my brand new bench vise and said "bolt it through the top into the frame, not just the top, or you'll rip it out the first time you really lean on it." Sure enough I had it screwed down with four little lag bolts and he was right. We spent the whole afternoon fixing it and he showed me his old bench that's been in his family since the 70s. Any of you ever get a bench tip like that from someone who just happened to walk by?
