My garage door spring snapped 4 days ago and I'm still waiting on the part
So last Tuesday morning I hit the opener and heard this awful bang from the garage, and the door just sat there dead. Turns out one of the torsion springs snapped clean in two, and there was a chunk of it lying on the floor next to my recycling bin. My neighbor Dave came over to look and said nope, don't touch it, and honestly he was right because those things hold a ton of tension. I called around and the first place wanted $380 just for the spring plus labor, and the second guy quoted me $290 but couldn't come out for over a week. So I measured the spring myself, 25 inches, and ordered a replacement pair online for $54 shipped, since you're supposed to swap both at the same time. Now I'm just staring at my car in the driveway because I can't park inside, and the winding bars I ordered won't show up until Thursday. Has anyone here done a torsion spring swap themselves, and did you bother with the winding bars or find some other way to get the tension set?
