Swapped my old workbench top with a free solid-core door and it's way more sturdy than I expected

Picked up a beat up solid-core door off Craigslist for free last Saturday, threw it on my garage workbench frame, and now I can pound on it without anything wobbling has anyone else used old doors as bench tops or am I late to the party?

Late to the party? Nah, you're just fashionably late with a solid door while the rest of us are still using flimsy particle board that sags if you look at it wrong. Free solid-core doors are pretty much the holy grail of garage workbench tops, so congrats on scoring one before the scrappers got to it. Just don't tell your wife you've got a door in the garage that's sturdier than the one on the bathroom.

Did you actually check the weight before hauling it, @miles_roberts22? Those solid cores are brutal to move by yourself, I nearly threw my back out getting mine out of a dumpster. Once it's on some 2x4 legs though, it's rock solid for life. Best part is you can screw stuff directly into the top without worrying about splitting. Just watch out for metal edges if it's a fire door, those things will eat your circular saw blade.
