Went to a garage sale in Toledo and saw a guy with 40 year old tools still working fine
He was using the same hand saw from 1982 to cut a 2x4 and it went through like butter, so I stopped buying fancy new stuff at the big box stores. Has anyone else found older tools at yard sales that actually outlast the new junk?

Funny enough, my grandpa's old hammer from the 70s is the only tool I haven't managed to break, which says a lot about my DIY skills.

I read somewhere that old tools were built different because they used higher carbon steel back then, not the cheaper recycled stuff they dump into tools now. My neighbor's been restoring old hand tools from estate sales and he says the 60s and 70s stuff is basically indestructible compared to what you'd grab at a big box store today. So your grandpa's hammer probably has that good old thick steel head that'll outlast all of us.
