My backyard studio went from unusable to perfect after I added a $60 window unit and a cheap rug
I built a 10x12 shed studio in my backyard in Tucson about two years ago, and for the first 8 months it was basically a storage closet. In July the inside hit 118 degrees by 2pm, and I couldn't even hold a pencil without sweating on my sketchbook. I tried a $20 box fan and a bowl of ice, which did nothing. Then in October I bought a $60 window AC unit from a scratch and dent place and put down a $25 rug from a garage sale. Now I can work in there until 6pm even in June, and the rug cut the echo so much that I stopped wearing headphones just to hear myself think. My buddy says the AC is cheating and I should just insulate the roof, but I think for the money nothing beats cold air blowing on your face. What's your take, is a window unit in a shed a waste of power or the best 60 bucks you can spend?
