My buddy the sound engineer told me to stop obsessing over gear and focus on room treatment first
He said I spent $600 on a new mic but my vocal booth is just a closet with blankets. Anyone else get caught up buying fancy stuff before getting the basics right?

@garcia.miles, blankets in a closet barely count as real room treatment. They only trap some high end flutter but do nothing for low frequency buildup. A $600 mic in a closet still sounds like a closet, not a studio.

Wait, isn't putting blankets in a closet pretty solid room treatment for vocals? I thought that was basically a poor man's vocal booth, not really treating the whole room.
