PSA: a backyard studio can legally count as a shed in my county if it's under 200 sq ft, and I found out the hard way
I built a 10x12 studio in my yard outside Sacramento last spring, got it wired for power, ran ethernet, the whole deal. Then a neighbor complained and I learned from the county planner that anything under 200 square feet on a residential lot here is classified as a shed, which means no permit was needed, but also that I can't run a business out of it. I had to pull the listing for my little voiceover setup and move it back inside the house. Anyone else run into a sq ft cutoff like this, and did you just stay under the limit or go through the full permit process?
Wait, so the county told you a shed can't have a business in it, but who's actually checking unless someone complains again? Neighbors get annoyed by noise or cars, not by whether your LLC is registered to a 120 sq ft building. Seems like the quick fix is just keep it quiet and low key, not tear down your setup.
