Spent 3 days making a checkout button bigger, conversion went down 12%
I ran an A/B test where I made the buy button 20% larger and bolder, thinking it would help, but the smaller version won by a lot. Turns out the big button felt like a scammy ad to users. Do you all trust the numbers or trust your gut on stuff like this?
The thing nobody talks about is WHERE the button sits on the page. Making it bigger changes the whole layout around it, so you're not just testing size, you're testing spacing and white space too. So the 12% drop might not be the button itself, it could be that the bigger one pushed something else down or crowded the price. I'd rerun it with the same layout and just swap the button style, otherwise the numbers are lying to you.
