Just found out Figma handles way more vector points than Canva without lagging

I was working on a detailed illustration with like 500 vector points and Canva started freezing up on me. I looked it up and apparently Figma can handle thousands of points smoothly while Canva struggles past a few hundred. Has anyone else hit this wall with complex designs?

Vent: That Gulfstream 650 wonk who argued with me about coax cable

I was working on a G650 out of Atlanta back in March, running new coax for the XM antenna, and this senior tech kept insisting I was terminating the connectors wrong. He said I needed to leave a half-inch more exposed core, even though the manual says a quarter inch max. I stood there and showed him the manufacturer's spec sheet from Rockwell Collins and he just shrugged and walked off. Has anyone else dealt with a veteran tech who thinks their old way beats the manual every time?

Unpopular opinion: That designer who told me to stop using pure black in UI was wrong for my specific project

A friend who does UX work in Austin insisted last year that pure black (#000000) is always bad for text and backgrounds. She said it causes eye strain and looks harsh. I listened to her and switched to a dark gray for a client's mobile app. The client hated it. They said the contrast was too low outdoors in sunlight. I switched back to pure black for the next version and they loved it. Has anyone else had a case where the 'rules' just don't work for your actual user?

Wasted 6 months tracking billable hours wrong in Harvest

About 8 months ago I found out I was logging all my team's hours under one generic project code in Harvest instead of splitting by client. The tip off was when I ran a quarterly profit report and it showed I supposedly made $40k off a single $2k retainer. My bookkeeper called me out and I felt like an idiot. Has anyone else had that moment where you realize you've been setting up your time tracking backwards from day one?

Tried broom finish vs exposed aggregate on a driveway in Phoenix last summer

I did two driveways back to back in July, one with broom finish and one with exposed aggregate. The broom finish took half the time but the homeowner wanted that fancy aggregate look after seeing it online. Man, the aggregate was a nightmare in that heat, the retarder dried way too fast on the second pour. Has anyone else had trouble timing the wash-off right when it's over 105 degrees?

That neon green sign I printed came out looking like swamp water

I designed a banner for a bar in Austin with this bright electric green that looked perfect on my monitor. Sent it to the print shop and got back this muddy olive color that made the whole thing look dead. Turns out the shop uses a standard CMYK profile but my screen was set to sRGB with way higher brightness. Has anyone found a reliable way to preview how those super saturated screen colors will actually print without wasting money on test prints?

Dropped $150 on a clipper sharpening kit and ruined my best blades

Last month I thought I'd save money by sharpening my own clippers at home. Watched a few YouTube videos, bought a kit from a supply shop in Atlanta. First blade came out okay but the second one I messed up the angle and now it pulls hair instead of cutting clean. Tried to fix it and just made it worse. Had to throw out 3 pairs of blades I've been using for years. Anyone else try DIY sharpening and regret it?

Had a chat with my neighbor about why his shed has lasted 20 years

He said he never used pressure treated wood for the floor because it sweats and rots from underneath, just used cedar on gravel. Made me wonder if half the stuff I build in my garage is doomed to fail in a decade.

Vent: Spent 3 hours on a garden wall last Tuesday and a dog knocked it over

I was finishing up the last course on a small retaining wall in some guy's backyard. His golden retriever ran straight through it before the mortar even set. Has anyone else had an animal mess up their work like that?
