I drive past this place every day and I swear the dolphin in their sign has no fins and just kind of looks like a lumpy vegetable. It's supposed to be a carwash with a dolphin theme but I don't think anyone on their design team has ever seen a real dolphin. Has anyone else had to deal with a logo that just completely misses what the business actually does?
I was in Tulsa last Tuesday waiting for my oil change and walked past this dentist office. Their logo was this giant tooth with a smiley face on it but the tooth looked more like a corn kernel. The colors were puke green and brown like they mixed up the mint aesthetic with something from a muddy backyard. How does a professional sign shop let that go out the door without saying something? Has anyone else seen a logo in their town that made you cringe just looking at it?
I was showing my buddy the logo for my landscaping company I've been using for 2 years. He's a graphic designer for a real firm, so I figured he'd say it looked fine. Instead he just laughed and asked why my company name was wrapped around a shovel like it was trying to escape. He said the kerning (whatever that means) was all off and the font looked like a ransom note. That hit different because I spent $150 on a Fiverr gig and thought I got a steal. Now I'm staring at my truck wrap and business cards feeling like a clown. Has anyone else had someone point out something obvious about their logo after using it for forever?
I hit 47 logo drafts for my landscaping business and people tell me I'm overthinking it. But that 47th version got me 3 new client calls in one week. Before that I was stuck on some fancy font that had nothing to do with what I do. The winning version just uses a simple leaf shape and my business name in bold letters. No gradients, no shadows, just flat and readable on a truck door. How many tries did it take before you guys felt like your logo was done?
I was at a local print shop in Des Moines last Thursday picking up some business cards when this college kid came in with a half-baked logo on a napkin and told the owner he didn't see the point in fixing it. The owner spent 2 minutes explaining how a bad logo can make your whole brand look like a garage sale and the kid just shrugged. Made me wonder when did we stop caring about first impressions or is it just the younger crowd that thinks visuals don't matter anymore?
I walked into this place called YoCream last weekend and the logo literally looked like someone took clipart from 1998 and slapped it on a sign. The cow had no legs, just a floating head with these dead eyes staring at you. They spent $200 on a banner but couldn't drop $50 on a basic logo fix? I almost left because it felt sketchy. Does anyone else judge a business by their logo before even trying their product? What's the worst logo you've seen that made you second guess going in?
Hired someone with 5-star reviews for a new logo. They sent me a clipart of a soccer ball with my company name typed in Comic Sans. Had to pay another designer $200 to fix it. Anyone else get burned by cheap logo services?
