Spent $40 on a vector trace service for my messy hand-drawn logo and it actually looked worse than the original sketch.

I uploaded my napkin doodle thinking their fancy software would clean it up nice, but they turned my crooked charm into generic blobs with no personality, has anyone else had better luck with a different service or just given up and learned Illustrator themselves?

The real issue nobody talks about is that vector tracing software chokes on intentional imperfection. Those slight wobbles and uneven lines from your napkin doodle are actually design features, not bugs. The programs try to "fix" them by smoothing everything into perfect curves, but that kills the handmade charm. You'd have better luck scanning it at high res and manually tracing it in Illustrator yourself, even if you're learning as you go. Way cheaper and you keep full control of the wonky bits.

Gotta disagree, those auto-tracers actually do a solid job if you tweak the settings right and keep your original scan clean.
