Tried to fix a merge conflict in Git and ended up deleting a whole day of work last Tuesday

I spent four hours trying to undo a messy merge in my first group project, and somehow I wiped out the changes my partner spent the whole weekend on. Has anyone else had a version control disaster that made them wish they just started over from scratch?

Switched from impact guns to hand tools on engine rebuilds after a disaster in Pittsburgh

I used to zIp everything off with my Milwaukee impact gun, thought it saved SO much time. Then last October I stripped a bolt on a customer's 2005 Civic timing chain cover in Pittsburgh and had to Heli-coil the whole mess. Now I break out the torque wrench and ratchet for anything internal, and I swear I've saved way more time on re-dos. Has anyone else stopped using power tools for certain jobs after a bad experience?

Threw money at a Pantone color bridge and it actually paid off

I used to just eyeball hex codes from my screen and hope the printer figured it out. Then I dropped $85 on a Pantone Color Bridge set after a client rejected a whole batch of business cards because the green came out looking like puke. The book showed me exactly why my neon green on screen turned into a muddy olive on paper. Now I pick my spot colors straight from the book before I even start designing. It feels like cheating but it saved me from reprinting that 500 card order. Has anyone else had a printer call out their color choices before you even submit the file?

Air duster vs compressed air tank - I learned the hard way at my shop in Portland last month

I was cleaning out a dusty old tower at a workspace downtown. Used a canned air duster for like 10 minutes and it froze up on me mid-job, completely useless. Swapped to my buddy's 5 gallon compressed air tank and finished the whole thing in under 2 minutes without any sputtering. Has anyone else ditched the cans for a proper tank setup?

Red and green buttons nearly cost me a real estate deal in Austin

I was helping my buddy design a simple listing website for his real estate gig in Austin last spring. He wanted the 'buy now' button in green and the 'save for later' in red, standard stuff. Took a week to build, launched it, and his first client actually clicked the wrong button on a house she was dead serious about. She ended up losing the home because the system thought she only saved it, not bought it. Turns out our buddy has mild deuteranopia, and the contrast was invisible to him even though it looked fine to the rest of us. Now I never set a button up without running it through a colorblind simulator first. Has anyone else had a real live client mess up because of a color choice they thought was normal?

PSA: My sourdough starter failed 3 times before I learned this one trick

Last month I tried to start a sourdough starter from scratch, and it went flat every single time. Three years ago I watched my grandma in Portland keep a bubbly one on her counter for decades, so I thought it'd be easy. But I kept getting this gross hooch layer on top after week one. I finally called her last week and she told me I was using tap water with too much chlorine. Switched to filtered water and fed it twice a day, and now it's alive and doubling in size within 4 hours. My neighbors think I'm crazy for checking on it every morning, but it's working. Has anyone else struggled with starter issues from something as simple as water quality?

Walked into a coffee shop in Portland and saw the barista debugging her own order system with sticky notes on the wall

She had this whole flowchart taped up behind the counter with little arrows and corrections. Made me realize even non-coders use logic like if/then statements every day. Ever spot someone using basic programming logic without knowing it?

Spent 3 hours trying to find why my sourdough wasn't rising

I made a new starter batch last week and it just sat there like a pancake for days. Turned out I was using water straight from the tap in a new town with heavy chlorine. Took me way too long to realize I needed to let the water sit out for an hour first. Anyone else had a dumb water issue mess with their bake?

Feedback on 5 Star Tuning? Looking to buy a tuner.

Working on a new build and need to sort out the tuning side of things. Has anyone here worked with 5 Star Tuning before? I see they sell the devices with custom tunes pre-loaded, which sounds super convenient. Just want to make sure they are legit before I pull the trigger.
