Coffee shop logo in Portland made me see things differently

I was grabbing a latte at a place near Powell's Books last week and noticed their logo was just a badly drawn coffee cup that looked more like a soup bowl. The barista said their cousin designed it for free and they've been too scared to change it for 4 years. Has anyone here had to convince a friend their DIY logo needed professional help?

Disagree completely. That DIY logo is exactly what makes a small business feel real and human. Corporate polish is everywhere and honestly kind of boring. The "bad" logo gives the shop personality and makes it memorable - I guarantee more people remember that soup bowl cup than some generic minimalist thing. If a customer actually asked if the vintage shop sold cursed furniture, that's free marketing gold right there. Leave the amateur art alone, it's part of the charm.

Oh man, my friend Sara let her roommate hand-paint the sign for her pop-up vintage shop and it looked like a kindergartner drew a haunted dresser. She kept it up for two months out of guilt until a customer asked if the store sold cursed furniture. She finally paid a real designer 50 bucks to fix it and said it was the best money she ever spent.
