Nightmare" is a bit much. Sometimes those messy situations force you to figure stuff out on your own, which is better long term. Relying on a buddy can just be a band-aid fix.

Yeah, that "turned to dust" thing is real. My buddy used a tiny bit of lighter fluid on his Pentax foam and it just... fell apart a few months later.
