Showerthought: Are minimalist logos actually bad for small businesses?

I was driving through Wichita last week and saw a local bakery's new logo, just a circle and a line, replacing their old one with an actual bread loaf. Two weeks later they had a sign out front explaining what they sell. Does stripping away detail help or hurt when nobody knows your name yet?

Read a study that said new businesses need SOME detail in their logos to be remembered. @olivia_barnes97 story proves it.

My friend Marcus runs a coffee cart in downtown Tulsa. He spent $800 on this ULTRA minimal logo, just two brown circles stacked on top of each other. People kept walking past asking if he sold donuts because they thought the circles were donuts. He finally had to add "coffee" in tiny letters underneath.
