Spent $40 on a brainstorming notebook that completely flopped

I bought this fancy notebook from a local shop last month, thought it would help me organize my story ideas for a fantasy series I'm working on. It had all these prompts and grids, but honestly, the pages were just too small for my messy thoughts. After two weeks, I switched back to a plain $2 spiral bound and wrote more in one afternoon than I did in the whole expensive thing. Has anyone else found that fancy tools just get in the way of actually writing?

Finally gave in and tried a different cutterhead pattern on my dredge

I've been running the same standard tooth pattern for 6 years and was sure the newer spiral setup was just marketing hype (you know how it is). But after 3 weeks on a sandy job near Lake Charles, my pump pressure dropped 15% and I didn't have to clear the intake once, so I'm a believer now. Anyone else have a tool or setup they were dead set against until they actually gave it a shot?

Unpopular opinion: I wasted $80 on a bone folder from a fancy woodworker

Everyone raves about those handmade bone folders from Etsy woodworkers, so I grabbed one from a shop in Portland for my binding work. Thing was gorgeous and expensive at 80 bucks, but after 3 uses the edge started chipping and it dragged like crazy on my paper. My old $12 nylon one from Hollander's actually glides smoother and has lasted years without issue. Anyone else had a similar letdown with fancy tools that just didn't perform?

My custom container home roof in Austin leaked after 8 months

I paid $4,200 for a flat roof sealant that was supposed to last 10 years, and last week during a storm water poured right through the seam between two containers, so now I'm ripping it off and going with a pitched metal roof instead, has anyone else had luck with that swap?

Lost my habit tracker for 2 weeks and found it in a cookbook

I was freaking out because I missed logging my water intake every day for 14 days straight. Turns out I used my old notebook as a coaster for a spaghetti sauce jar and it got stuck to the fridge with a magnet lol. Has anyone else misplaced their journal in a dumb spot like that?

Overheard a guy at the supply yard say 'just broom it flat' like that's all there is to it

Was picking up some Cure and Seal at the Maxwell Hardware yesterday and this younger guy told his buddy that finishing is just brooming it flat. I wanted to hand him a rebar and tell him to try walking a slab in 90 degree heat. Has anyone else had to bite their tongue when someone makes it sound that simple?

The outlet tester lie I believed for 8 years

I was doing a service call at a house built in 1982 near Columbus last Tuesday. Plugged in my standard 3-light tester on a GFCI outlet and it read "correct" so I moved on. But the homeowner mentioned her microwave would shut off randomly. I finally broke out my multimeter and found I had a open neutral on that circuit the whole time. That little tester can show a false positive when there's a bootleg ground or something funky. Has anyone else caught a dangerous situation because those cheap testers said everything was fine?
