The hallway door at my office opens out into the hallway and I got knocked down by it Tuesday
Our building on 5th Street has these glass doors that swing toward you instead of away, and Tuesday morning I pushed it open right into a guy carrying two coffees, soaking my shirt at 8:45am. Turns out the handle works both ways so you can never tell which side it opens from, and there is no window to see who is on the other side. Who designed a door that fights back, and has anyone else gotten wrecked by a building that clearly hates people?
The real issue here is that your building probably got those doors to pass some fire code inspection and nobody ever checked if they make sense for actual humans. Swinging both ways with no window is a setup for exactly what happened to you, and it happens because the door has to work as an exit in an emergency, so it has to push out from the inside. But from the hall side it means you are shoving a slab of glass into traffic every time you leave. The fix is usually a small peep window or one of those curved handles that only turns one way, but that costs money so landlords skip it. You got knocked down by a rule, basically, not by bad luck.
