My buddy the graphic designer called my logo a cluttered mess
He said the 3 fonts and 4 colors I crammed in there looked like a yard sale sign, and after staring at it for 10 minutes I realized he was totally right, anyone else get that kind of harsh truth from a friend that actually helped?

That kind of honest feedback is a real gift even if it stings at first. The thing nobody talks about though is how your brain sees your own design completely different from everyone else. You stare at it for hours and your eyes just start filling in the gaps and making it look better than it really is. It's like when you rearrange your living room furniture and think it looks great until your buddy walks in and says you blocked the pathway on purpose. Graphic designers have that trained eye to spot the chaos we get comfortable with over time. Sounds like your friend did you a solid by being brutally honest instead of just nodding along.
