Rant: That cashier who argued with me over a broken zipper design

I was at Target last Tuesday trying to return a jacket I bought 3 days earlier. The zipper was sewn in upside down so it would catch and split open every time I tried to zip it up. The cashier looked at it and said 'well maybe you're just pulling it wrong.' I told her no, the teeth are literally facing the wrong direction compared to every other zipper I own. She called her manager over who examined it for a solid 5 minutes and finally agreed it was defective. The whole interaction took 20 minutes for a $45 jacket return. Has anyone else run into store employees who defend obviously terrible design choices instead of just processing the return?

Wow, I gotta push back on this one a bit. The cashier is probably dealing with 500 returns a week where people just changed their mind or didn't like the color, so she's trained to look for abuse. If every customer came in with a genuine defect, they'd just process it no questions asked. Maybe she was rude about it, but the manager did eventually approve it, so the system worked. Zipper teeth facing the wrong way is pretty unusual, can you really blame her for being skeptical when she sees that for the first time?

Yeah but that's just how most things go now, we're all trained to suspect each other first and ask questions later.
