DAE notice how many restaurant menus in Portland use that fake chalkboard font now?
I counted 9 out of 14 menus on a single block in Portland last weekend using some version of that fake chalk font, and I could not read a single price. The worst one had white text on a light gray board, so half the specials just vanished. Is this a trend spreading everywhere or did I just hit a bad street?
Real chalkboards are actually pretty rare in restaurants these days. Most of those menus are printed on chalkboard-pattern paper or vinyl, which is why the "chalk" letters look so crisp and fake. Actual chalk gets smudged, and nobody wants to rewrite the specials every morning. The light gray board with white text is just bad design though, that one isn't the font's fault.
