Can we talk about how mute buttons on video calls set us up for embarrassment?
Last week on a work video call, I tapped the mute button and saw the icon change. Confident I was muted, I mumbled about how long the meeting was dragging. Everyone suddenly went quiet, and I realized my mic was live. People always say it's our fault for not checking, but I disagree. The visual cue is too subtle (seriously, a tiny microphone icon?). A better setup would be a clear sound or a big pop-up confirmation. That awkward silence could have been avoided with a simple fix.

Totally agree about the visual cue being too subtle. This bad design doesn't just cause awkwardness, it can mess up actual work when people miss things.

That "mess up actual work" bit is why bad door handles confuse people every single day.

Ugh, my buddy wasted an hour on a report because the stupid "save" icon was a tiny floppy disk next to a bigger download arrow. He clicked the wrong one and lost everything.
