Had a lady return a cake yesterday because she said it was 'too moist'

She argued with me for 10 minutes at the counter in my shop in Cincinnati that moist meant undercooked. How do you even argue with someone who thinks a perfectly baked vanilla sponge is raw?

Wait, is this really the hill you want to die on? Like, a customer has a weird opinion and you can't just smile and nod until they leave? I mean, yeah, "too moist" is silly, but arguing for 10 minutes over a cake seems like a huge waste of your time and energy. Some people just have their own strange definitions and no amount of logic is gonna change that. You already got paid, right? So maybe just let her think your cake is raw and move on with your day.

Read somewhere that in baking, moisture is actually a sign of proper technique, not undercooking. A dry cake usually means it sat too long or the recipe wasn't balanced right. Sounds like she was stuck on that old-fashioned idea that a cake has to be crumbly and dry to be fully done. Doesn't matter how much you explain it, some people just have their minds made up.
