There's a pattern here that shows up everywhere once you notice it. The best tools usually come from copying something that already worked in the physical world, not from someone sitting in a room trying to reinvent it. Letterpress folks gave us type scales, map makers gave us grid systems, and animation studios gave us onion skinning. Someone sees a good thing in real life, then builds a digital version of it. Old blueprints have that same thing going on with how the grid wasn't just a guide, it was part of the drawing itself. Kind of makes you wonder how much of what we call new design thinking is really just old shop knowledge dressed up in a menu bar.
