Rant: My sourdough starter went flat for a solid week and I almost gave up

I was trying a new rye flour blend and the starter just stopped doubling. I tried warmer water, a different spot in the kitchen, everything. It took me seven full days of daily feeds to get it active again. Has anyone else had a starter just decide to take a vacation?

Yeah, the "starter vacation" thing is real. My buddy had his go totally lazy for ten days after he switched to a fancy bottled water. He was sure it was dead.

Honestly thought that whole idea was nonsense for years. My own starter seemed fine no matter what I did. Then I tried using filtered water from the fridge for a week instead of tap. The thing just stopped bubbling completely. Took nearly two weeks and going back to plain tap water to wake it back up. Now I'm a total believer in the water thing.
