My old boss swore by thinning shears on dry hair, but after 2 years I flipped

He said dry cutting with thinners gives a softer blend and I trusted him until a client in Denver came back with frizzy ends that looked hacked after 3 days. I tried it wet on the next four cuts and the texture came out way cleaner, plus it saved me about 15 minutes per fade. Is this just a preference thing or did that guy have it backwards for everyone?
