PSA: Drawing the line on free cuts for friends
I learned this the hard way after agreeing to trim my neighbor's hair. He told his coworkers, and suddenly I had a list of people asking for favors. It was fine at first, but then they expected complex styles without paying. I missed out on real appointments because I was too busy with these free jobs. One time, a friend got upset when I charged him for a last-minute request. Now I have a firm policy: no cuts outside the shop unless it's family. It might seem harsh, but it protects my time and income. Trust me, make your boundaries clear from the start.

My buddy in Phoenix built his whole client list doing free cuts for friends at first. That word of mouth got him more regulars than ads ever did.

Sounds like a lot of work for no pay at first. How long can you actually afford to do free cuts before it hurts your own bills? Plus, friends might keep expecting the free hookup forever.
