PSA: That fancy ceramic blade I bought chipped after 3 haircuts

Dropped $40 on a ceramic blade set from a booth at the Atlanta barber expo and it chipped on the third head of hair... has anyone else had bad luck with those high-end blades or did I just get a dud?

Used to be a huge ceramic believer myself, thought they were the future of cutting. But after seeing your post and hearing a few other barbers complain about chips too, I'm completely reconsidering that whole metal vs. ceramic debate. Steel might be heavier but at least it doesn't shatter after three cuts.

What you said about steel being heavier but at least it doesn't shatter after three cuts is exactly why I gave up on ceramic blades last year. Read a study from some university that tested ceramic knife edges against steel ones, and they found ceramic actually gets micro-cracks way easier than people realize. The chips are just those cracks finally giving out. That expo booth probably sold you a blade that looked good but wasn't heat treated right or had some defect you couldn't see. Mine chipped on the fifth cut, right in the middle of a fade, and I had to switch mid-job to my old steel clippers.
