Tried a new fade technique from a barber in Atlanta and it totally backfired

Saw this guy on Instagram doing a 'zero to skin' fade with just clipper over comb, no guards. Figured I'd try it on my buddy who's always down for something new. Ended up with a harsh line I couldn't blend out for 20 minutes straight. Anyone got a solid method for that super soft transition without looking choppy?

Remember when my buddy tried that and got a stripe?

Tbh, I've seen way worse lines than that just grow out fine.

Honestly, "couldn't blend out for 20 minutes straight" sounds like a normal Tuesday. It's just hair, it grows back in like two weeks. My guy probably didn't even notice the line you're stressing over. We've all had a cut go a little wrong, but it's not like you gave him a third ear.
