Went from freehand fades to a $15 mannequin head in my kitchen, huge difference in 3 weeks

I used to just wing it on real customers at the shop and pray my clipper lines came out even, but after I bought that cheap practice head from the supply store in Newark and started doing a fade every night before bed, my repeat bookings doubled and now I'm asking myself why I didn't do this when I first started cutting back in 2019, anyone else swear by practicing on fake heads over real ones?

Start treating that mannequin like a real client's head, meaning you time yourself and force yourself to fix mistakes instead of just starting over, that's where the muscle memory really kicks in. Once you get comfortable with the shape and how the hair falls on a fake head, real heads feel way easier because you're not panicking about the crown or the neckline. Keep that thing on your kitchen counter for a month and you'll never go back to winging it, trust me.
