My attempt at a pitmaster flip led to a kitchen chaos moment
I saw a famous pitmaster do a quick flip on the grill (you know, the one with the fancy mustache), so I gave it a shot with my ribs. Next thing I know, grease flared up and filled my kitchen with smoke. My dog started barking, and I had to wave a towel at the alarm. Now I'm wondering if that move is worth the risk for home cooks like me.

Did you see how fast that video the_eric mentioned went? A flare up isn't just a little smoke, it's a real fire that spreads in a blink. Having a lid ready is good, but the real lesson is that showy moves are for a controlled pit, not a home kitchen where everything is way too close. Trying to look cool isn't worth the total panic and possible damage.

Start by seeing how a small grease flare can jump to curtains or cabinets in seconds. I remember a fire safety video showing a pan fire reaching the ceiling in under 30 seconds. Sure, they happen, but that's why using a lid or baking soda nearby is a no-brainer. Ignoring it is like playing with matches in a paper factory.
