A customer in Boise brought in a bike with a seized seatpost, and after three days of soaking with penetrating oil, a bench vise, and a cheater bar, I got it out without damaging the frame.

What's your go-to method for a really stuck seatpost when the usual tricks don't work?

Ever notice how a stuck seatpost is just like any other stubborn problem? I mean you try the easy fixes first, like the oil and the vise, but when that fails you have to get weird with it. I've heard of people using dry ice or a heat gun on the frame, basically fighting one kind of force with its total opposite. It's a good reminder that sometimes the direct approach just makes things worse, and you need a totally different kind of pressure to break something loose.

Yeah, the dry ice trick is a last resort but it works. Just gotta be super careful not to wreck the paint.

That part about fighting one force with its total opposite really hits home. My whole life is basically trying the direct approach first and making everything worse (it's a gift, really). I once tried to force a stuck window open so hard I just locked it shut forever. So now I'm all about the weird, indirect fixes, even if I look like a mad scientist with dry ice and a hairdryer.
