DAE figure out their derailleur hanger was bent by eye after 8 months of ghost shifting?
I spent 8 months chasing a ghost shift on my gravel bike, new cable, new housing, adjusted the barrel a hundred times. Last Tuesday I finally clamped the hanger in my Park DAG-2 and the gauge showed it was off by about 4mm. I felt like an idiot because I'd been blaming the cassette and the chain the whole time. Bent it back straight in maybe 30 seconds and the shifting was silent on the first ride. Now I check hangers on every tune-up before I even touch the cable. How do you all convince customers that the hanger is the problem when they swear it's the shifter?
How did you get them to actually let you put the gauge on it? I had a guy last month who was dead sure his shifter was shot, swore up and down, so I asked to just check the hanger first. Took me ten seconds to show him the gap on my DAG and he still wanted to argue. Does showing them the tool in person usually do the trick, or do you have to let them ride it after and feel the fix before they buy it?
