I faced a moral choice with a customer's worn cassette
A regular customer brought in a bike with a worn cassette and limited funds. Most mechanics would insist on a new one for safety, but I checked the wear and found it still had life. I cleaned and reinstalled it, explaining the risks, and the bike has been fine for months. Sometimes, being too rigid can push people away from proper maintenance.

My local library will waive overdue fines if you just talk to them, which keeps people coming back. That same flexible thinking you used prevents folks from avoiding help altogether.

That library policy is such a good example of how a little kindness works better than strict rules. Drewp75, it's like when a coworker covers for you when you're late instead of writing you up, you just try harder next time. You see it with customer service too, where letting one fee slide builds way more loyalty than fighting over it. Makes you wonder why more places don't get that being decent actually gets people to follow the rules.
